 Sister Mary Jane's Welcome Letter
Welcome to the website for St. John the Evangelist School. We are very proud of our website and sincerely thank everyone who helps to keep it current.
We are even prouder of our school. As an integral part of St. John the Evangelist Parish, we are a K-8 elementary school. While teaching the 3 R’s is important, the primary reason for a Parish school is to give 8 or 9 years of formation as the disciples of Jesus Christ. This goal is best expressed in our mission statement: “To proclaim the Gospel message, to prepare each student to be a leader spiritually, intellectually, academically and socially so that he or she will be able to create a preferred future”.
The school opened in September 1955 with 48 students. Today, at full capacity, we number 270 students. Our students excel academically scoring in the top 25% of the nation in standardized testing (Iowa Basics) and the top 10% of the diocese. Our sports program includes cross country, basketball, volleyball and Spring track. Our annual basketball tournament for grades 3-8, boys and girls, is in its 29th season and one of the year’s highlights for the students. Other highlights include our Fall Talent Show and our Spring Cabaret. Tuition is comparable to schools of our size and our curriculum includes music, art, physical education and computer.Our Faculty and Staff are faith-filled trained professionals. Our teachers are state certified with several holding Master’s degrees. These are people who are willing to commit themselves to creating a Christian atmosphere and provide good academic standards.
However, without the strength and support of the Parents much of what we accomplish would not be possible. Our Parents support the school in so many ways and we are indeed blessed by their dedication and commitment to St. John’s School.
